Secretary for the South China Sea Branch of State Oceanic Administration, Li Lixin, said the marine disasters in Guangdong province, disaster losses annually ranks the first in China, storm surge and wave disaster is the main form of disaster. 1998 to 2009, China had 56 times greater occurrence of storm surge disaster, which occurred 24 times in Guangdong, accounting for 43% of the country. 2010, the storm surge caused direct economic losses of Guangdong Province, more than 3 billion yuan.
